Hillsboro Christian School uses the A Beka curriculum in use in over 118,000 schools internationally. Millions of students have demonstrated the effectiveness of the A Beka method. Students average 2-3 years above grade level on standardized tests.
Traditional classroom instruction is delivered by master teachers using advanced classroom DVD technology.
Our teacher mentors provide individual attention and support to students in the classroom and during study time.
Texts, workbooks and reference materials supplement the instruction of master teachers and enable students to engage in additional study and homework.
“In 1954, Dr. Arlin Horton and his wife, Beka, started a Christian school in Pensacola, Florida. But they soon discovered a problem. Textbooks and curriculum based on biblical educational philosophy were starting to disappear. Burdened to give their students the best education possible, they stood in the gap and began producing their own materials. When administrators and teachers from other Christian schools saw how these materials could help their students and asked if they could buy these materials, A Beka Book was born.
Pensacola Christian Academy, where Abeka materials are piloted and video lessons filmed.
Even with proven materials, teaching still takes time, commitment, and skill. To help growing Christian schools and homeschool families, A Beka Academy video instruction from the master teachers of Pensacola Christian Academy began in 1985.
In 2014, digital textbooks, art, teaching aids, and assessments were introduced to enhance learning and save time in the classroom and at home.
In 2017, A Beka Book became Abeka, and all Abeka products—including Abeka Academy—became available at abeka.com.
What started with phonics-based readers and traditional arithmetic textbooks has now grown to comprise over 1,000 educational products from nursery through 12th grade—all written by educators with real teaching experience. Today, Abeka continues to partner with school teachers and homeschooling parents to help provide an excellent education from a Christian perspective.”

Accreditation
One question parents of prospective students sometimes ask is, “Is HCS an accredited school?”. This is a valid and important question. A diploma from an accredited secondary school (high school) is often accepted by business and post-secondary schools without question while diplomas from non-accredited schools can be viewed as a sign of a sub-standard education. When the latter view is taken it can lead to difficulty in gaining acceptance into colleges and places of employment.
The answer to this question is, “No, HCS is not an accredited school.” Those who know anything about the Abeka curriculum and HCS know there is nothing sub-standard about an education gained through such a program of study. Unfortunately, that does not carry any weight with organizations that have decided on a blanket policy of only accepting diplomas from accredited secondary schools. It is important to note that graduating HCS seniors historically have not had a problem being accepted in colleges/military/jobs that they have applied despite not being accredited.
Accreditation is available for all students of Abeka Master Video schools through a program offered by Abeka Academy, and HCS is a Master Video school. It is available for all grades. In this program the teachers at HCS would continue to teach the courses as is currently done, but all tests, quizzes, and specific assigned project material would be sent to ABA after evaluation with the student. ABA would use these documents to create a file through which the students would receive a permanent record of all work sent to ABA which would be officially graded on site. Graduating students would be offered the opportunity to participate in the PCA graduation ceremony. Report cards and up to three transcripts would be provided as part of the program cost. For all students enrolled in the accredited program standardized testing is also covered in the program cost, but it is optional. High school diplomas received under this program are accredited under both the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (FACCS) and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA CESS).
While accreditation has value at all grade levels it is never an issue before high school. The PCA accreditation program costs the applying family $450 per student per year. For parents who value the acceptance an accredited diploma gives their children this is a viable and valuable option while still having their students attend HCS.
Pilgrims Thanksgiving will be held on November 22. No classes that day!
